Making a metal and wood coffee table

In this project I re-use an old reclaimed table top to make a new steel and wood coffee table to fit the other furniture in the house. Its a nice mix of (less traditional) woodworking and some metal working. First are weld as squares, the bottom side temporary, this is done to ensure that the legs stay square during the welding process.

When the legs are prepared it is time for the wood. First the table top is cut to size and roughened with an angle grinder and various wheels / disks. Next step was to cut the holes in the table and put the legs through. When this is all done the legs can be weld on the bottom and all there is left is painting :)

Mounting the metal legs through the holes in the wood was a challenge in this project. Not only was it a time consuming task to create the holes at the right place and kind of tight the holes also restrict the wood's movement which could cause cracks in the wood.
