Making a metal and wood wine rack

If you watched buy coffee table build video you know that most of the furniture in my house is made of metal and wood in a modern industrial style. There are a few pieces in the living room left that don’t match the style of the rest, one of them was an old wine rack I made a couple of years ago. Time for change!

So in this video I make a slick looking metal and wood wine rack out of some red oak and some steel tubing. The cool thing is that you don’t have to be a metal worker to be able to do this project. Hold it… there is no welding involved at al! And however I think welding is really nice and not as scary as many people think I wanted to do this project in a way a lot of people can do it.

Capping the ends with wood instead of welding not only gives a cool accent but it also eliminates the welding process in this project. A also discovered an easy way to connect the metal beams to the wood while keeping it parallel. By cutting V grooves on the bandsaw and pulling the beams in with bolts from the inside the wood keeps everything nice and straight.

I’m really happy with how it turned out and it is now a true eye catcher in my living room. There are still some pieces “to do” in my living room over the next couple of months so if you liked this you can either subscribe on youtube or sign up for my email list where I will send a monthly recap of that months projects.
